Malaysian Writers Society

While most of our programmes and activities are made available at no cost, there are some privileges for those who register as Society Members. Society Membership is on an annual renewal basis. There are 3 types of Memberships offered:

Full Member

  1. Malaysian citizens or Permanent Residents of full age with at least one (1) publication in which they have been credited as author, editor, literary translator/contributor in an Approved Publication.

Candidate Member

  1. Malaysian citizens or Permanent Residents of any age who aspire to achieve publication in an Approved Publication; or
  2. Non-Malaysians of full age who have been resident in Malaysia for a continuous period of at least one (1) calendar year, is resident in Malaysia at the time of application, and is involved in the Malaysian writing community.

Note: Candidate Members can upgrade their membership to Full Member upon fulfilling the Full Member criteria and by sending in proof of publication.

Affiliate Member

  1. Corporate Bodies, Associations or Legal Entities, whether incorporated in Malaysia or otherwise, that conducts business in the Malaysian Literary & Publishing Industry, who wish to cooperate with MYWriters and agree to abide by the Society’s Guidelines and Practices.

Approved Publication

At least one (1) publication from any of the categories listed, in which you have been credited as author, editor, literary translator or contributor:

  1. Any publication bearing an International Standard Book Number (ISBN),
  2. Film, Screen or Play Credits, able to be certified by Producer of Film, TV or Play Production if so required, or
  3. Any literary magazine or periodical, in print, eformat or online, which fulfills ALL of the following criteria:
    • has been in publication for a minimum period of 5 years;
    • has published at least 20 issues since its commencement; and
    • is a paying market, i.e. pays for written contributions by way of monetary compensation.
