The Malaysian Writers Festival is dedicated to providing a harassment-free conference experience for everyone, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, religion (or lack thereof), or technology choices. We do not tolerate harassment of conference participants in any form. Conference participants violating these rules may be expelled from the conference without a refund at the discretion of the conference organisers.

Harassment includes, but is not limited to:

  • offensive verbal comments related to gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, religion, technology choices;
  • sexual images in public spaces;
  • deliberate intimidation;
  • following, stalking, or recording of fellow attendees in a manner that makes attendees feel unsafe;
  • sustained disruption of program items;
  • unwelcome sexual attention.

All attendees, including speakers, volunteers, and staff, are subject to the anti-harassment policy.

Participants asked to stop any harassing behaviour are expected to comply immediately. If the participant continues to engage in harassing behaviour, the conference organisers may take any action they deem appropriate, including and up to expulsion from the Fest with no refund.

If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, email us at mywritersfest@malaysianwriterssociety.org with the word “SAFETY” in the subject line. We will log the details of the offending behaviour that you provide, and determine further action from there.

We expect all participants to follow these rules over the course of the virtual fest.
